Fostering critical thinking through storytelling

Novi eTwinning projekt integriran u nastavu engleskog jezika

Project description

The development of critical thinking skills and mindset represents the backbone of the pupils' academic progress and workplace success.

Through enhancing speaking, writing, listening, reading and presentation skills pupils learn about partner’s traditional tales and heroes, present their favourite books and short stories, discuss the plot and the characters and come up with new plot endings by changing the personality features of the story characters. Activities imply IT-skills, collaboration, teamwork, creativity, communication, and critical thinking.

Aims

  • To foster critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication
  • To enhance reading, writing, listening and presentation skills
  • To underline the multicultural quality and international dialogue
  • To familiarize pupils with various literary genres and their characteristics
  • To bring to the surface personal interests of each student and highlight their individual talents and creativity
  • To motivate pupils to improve their use of the English language through reading authentic texts and creative writing
  • To motivate pupils to read other literary works at their own free will

Work process

  • Pupils do research on tales, books, stories in connection to other school subjects (native language, history, lives of famous inventors, Marie Curie, Albert Einstein/chemistry, physics, etc.).
  • They present their work on Twinspace by creating Mindmaps (bubble.us), presentations (Sway, PowerPoint, Emaze.me, AdobeSpark) or posters (Canva, Postermywall). Younger pupils do drawings.
  • Partner pupils analyze presentations, discuss the plot/the life, the characters, their personality features, connect and explain the plot/the life stories with the roots of the character’s behavior and create different endings by attributing new personality traits to the characters. They write their suggestions in Padlet, which will be embedded in Twinspace.
  • Storytellers Conference

Pupils work in international groups.

Task: In 15 min, with your international group, create and present the final story you choose from the Padlet-stories-pallet. (Live event in Twinspace/Google Hangouts).

  • Voting for the most impressive presentation
  • Based on their new stories pupils create book covers (Canva)
  • Goodbye gifts: Bookmarks

Pupils create bookmarks (Wikihow – make-a-bookmark) inspired by their mutual work and send it by post to their partners.

All activities will be displayed on Twinspace.

Expected results

  • Developed critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, reading, writing, listening, presentation skills
  • Activities’ products: book covers, new stories, bookmarks
  • New friendship
  • Enhanced social skills and social intelligence
  • Improved 21st century skills
  • Fostered intercultural dialogue

CARNET e-Škole

Mi djeca EU kažemo...


Zadovoljstvo nam je obavijestiti sve naše drage učenike, djelatnike i roditelje da je naša škola već drugi put za redom koordinator međunarodnog projekta pod pokroviteljstvom programa Erasmus+. Naš prvi projekt "Od starog pisma do novog prijateljstva" uspješno smo priveli kraju i krenuli 1.9.2016. u realizaciju drugog projekta kojega smo nazvali "Mi djeca EU kažemo...".
Dvije su okosnice projekta: razvijanje osnovnih vještina (čitanje, pisanje, govorenje i slušanje) te zaštita dječjih prava. Sve vas pozivamo na suradnju u brojnim aktivnostima (poveznica: Projekti > Mi djeca EU kažemo...)  koje ćemo provoditi u sljedeće dvije školske godine.
